‘Days of Our Lives’ and ‘Melrose Place’ actor dies at 57

Patrick Muldoon, known for his roles in Days of Our Lives, Melrose Place, and Starship Troopers, has died at the age of 57 after suffering a heart attack. According to TMZ, he passed away following an incident at his Beverly Hills home. His sister, Shana Muldoon-Zappa, said he had been drinking coffee with his girlfriend before going to take a shower, where he was later found unconscious. Despite paramedics’ efforts, he could not be revived.

Muldoon began his career early, appearing in Who’s the Boss? while still in college, and later gained attention with a role in Saved by the Bell. He became widely recognized for playing Austin Reed on Days of Our Lives from 1992 to 1995, returning again from 2011 to 2012. Reflecting on his return, he once said it felt like going back to high school, working with many of the same people he had enjoyed collaborating with in the 1990s.

He also took on the role of villain Richard Hart in Melrose Place and earned a cult following for his performance as Zander Barcalow in the 1997 sci-fi film Starship Troopers. A longtime fan of science fiction, Muldoon described playing such roles as a “real treat,” reflecting his passion for the genre. Over the years, he continued working steadily in film and television, with credits including Marlowe, Vanquish, Dakota, and Murder at Hollow Creek.

Beyond acting, Muldoon worked as a producer through his company Storyboard Productions, contributing to several projects, including the upcoming film Kockroach. At the time of his death, he remained active in the industry, with his final film Dirty Hands set for release later this year. He is survived by his partner Miriam Rothbart, his parents, and his sister along with her family.
