Israel Orders IDF to Destroy All Litani River Bridges, Accelerate Demolitions in Lebanon Border Villages
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced on March 22, 2026, that he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have directed the IDF to immediately target infrastructure used by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
In his statement, Katz declared: “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and I have ordered the IDF to immediately destroy all the bridges over the Litani River that are used for terrorist activity, in order to prevent Hezbollah terrorists and weapons from moving south.”
He added that the military will also speed up the demolition of Lebanese homes in frontline villages near the border: “accelerate the demolition of Lebanese houses in the contact villages in order to thwart threats to Israeli communities, in accordance with the Beit Hanun and Rafah models in Gaza.”
Katz emphasized the ongoing ground operation’s intensity, stating the IDF continues “with full force in the ground maneuver in Lebanon to eliminate Hezbollah terrorists and reach the Litani line and controlling points as quickly as possible to protect the settlements.”
He concluded firmly: “We are determined not to allow the reality before October 7 to return. We promised to protect the residents of the north – and that is exactly what we will do.”
The moves aim to sever Hezbollah’s supply lines and create a stronger security buffer along Israel’s northern border amid the prolonged conflict.
