A shocking post claiming that former U.S. President Joe Biden, his wife Jill Biden, and one of his grandchildren were killed in a plane crash has been spreading online.

The dramatic post is accompanied by a collage of photographs showing Biden and his family alongside an image of a crashed aircraft. The caption claims that the incident happened “a few minutes ago” near Canada and attributes the information to Fox News.

But there is an important problem with the claim: there is currently no reliable confirmation that Joe Biden, Jill Biden, or a Biden grandchild died in such a plane crash.

A Shocking Claim Spreads Online

Posts like this can spread extremely quickly, especially when they use phrases such as “Just In,” “breaking news,” or “a few minutes ago.”

Those words are designed to create urgency and encourage people to share the information before checking whether it is authentic.

The use of a familiar news organization’s name can make a post appear even more credible. However, simply mentioning Fox News in a social-media caption does not prove that Fox News actually published or reported the story.

What Does the Evidence Show?

Recent reporting does not support the claim that Biden died in a plane crash.

Current coverage published on August 17, 2026, discusses Joe Biden’s health and comments from Jill Biden about her husband’s ongoing battle with  cancer. The reporting does not describe a plane crash involving Biden, Jill Biden, and a grandchild.

Cancer

That makes the viral caption extremely misleading.

Why These Posts Can Be Dangerous

False breaking-news stories involving famous people are nothing new.

They often combine real photographs with an unrelated image, add an emotional headline, and create the impression that a major event has just happened.

The result can look convincing at first glance.

But a genuine death involving a former U.S. president would be an enormous international news event. Such a story would normally be confirmed independently by multiple major news organizations and official sources.

That is why readers should be particularly careful before sharing dramatic claims about deaths, accidents, or other emergencies.

What About the Plane Crash Photo?

Another important detail is the photograph of the crashed aircraft.

A picture of a plane wreck does not, by itself, establish when or where the crash happened—or who was involved.

Images can be taken from older incidents and reused in completely different stories. A photograph can therefore be real while the caption attached to it is completely false.

This is one of the most common techniques used in misleading viral posts.

The Bottom Line

The viral claim that Joe Biden, Jill Biden, and their grandson died in a plane crash near Canada is not supported by reliable evidence available at the time of writing.

Readers should not treat the social-media post as confirmed news simply because it uses the name of a major news organization or includes photographs.

Before sharing a dramatic “breaking news” story, check the original news outlet, look for independent confirmation, and pay attention to the date of the photographs being used.

In this case, the evidence currently points to a false or unverified viral claim, not a confirmed plane-crash tragedy.
